The Kissing Hand

The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn is a story about a mother racoon and her son Chester racoon's first day of school. He is nervous, scared and is very hesitant to start. His mom ends up kissing his hand and telling him when he feels scared just put the palm of his hand by his cheek and the warmth of his mother's love will make him feel all better. The book is a great ice breaker for the first day of school and comes with stickers for the kids. If you go online you can find tons of activities that can be used with the book in your future classrooms.

The teacher materials for the Kissing Hand could be useful.

When I read this book, i felt in love with the story. I like the part where Chester Raccoon's mother is very patient with him and reveals him a message that would make him feel secure and the enormous love she has for him. I agree with you that the activities are fun.

This book sounds very good like it will really help those children who are attending school for the first time. Kids really need the reassurance that the parents will come back for them. many children experience seperation anxieties.

I really like this book. I am a preschool teacher and I read this book to my children on the first day of school. After reading the story to them I gave each student a lip sticker so when they also feel sad and miss their mommy or daddy they can put that sticker by their face and it will make them feel better.. and it did work.
